What is the best Search4faces alternative?
For the Russian-language web beyond VK and OK, Yandex Images (free). For Western social profiles, PimEyes (subscription, largest index) or FaceCheck.ID (crypto-only credit packs). For a free unwatermarked photo check, Google Lens. For checking whether a profile photo belongs to a real, consistent identity across 400+ platforms, FootprintIQ's free scan.
Search4faces is free, needs no account and is listed in Bellingcat's toolkit for good reason. Its limits are coverage (four Russian-centric platforms) and freshness (datasets mostly ending in 2022, VK refreshed 2025), not quality.
Why People Look for a Search4faces Alternative
Search4faces does exactly what it says: free reverse face search against profile photos from VK, Odnoklassniki, TikTok and Clubhouse, plus a celebrity recogniser. The problem is scope. If the person you are checking has no presence on Russian social networks — which is most people in the UK, US and Western Europe — it returns nothing, and its datasets are frozen mostly at 2022, so even a VK user who joined recently may be missing. It also searches one database at a time and, as Bellingcat's toolkit notes, look-alikes are easily confused without corroborating context.
1. Yandex Images — the free next step for the Russian-language web
If your reason for using Search4faces was the Russian-speaking internet, Yandex's reverse image search is the natural free companion: its similarity matching does pick up faces and its index reaches beyond VK and OK to forums, classified sites and news. Results skew heavily Eastern European and the interface defaults to Russian, but it costs nothing and needs no account.
2. PimEyes — the largest open-web face index
For Western social profiles and the open web, PimEyes remains the most complete consumer face engine. Its pricing page lists Open Plus (75 searches a day, 10 alerts), PROtect (125 a day, 20 alerts) and Advanced (unlimited, 500 alerts), priced by region and billing period; the free search returns only a blurred grid. It accepts card payment.
3. FaceCheck.ID — social profiles and public records
FaceCheck.ID indexes faces on Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn profiles, news sites, video thumbnails and — unusually — mugshot and offender registries, with a confidence score per match. Free results are blurred; credit packs run from $6 to $597 and expire, and since late 2024 it accepts only Bitcoin and Litecoin.
4. Lenso.ai and Google Lens — searching a photo, not just a face
Lenso.ai runs one upload through face, place and object pipelines and lets you search free with watermarked results (Starter $19.99 a month for 50 unlocks). Google Lens is free and unwatermarked but deliberately avoids face matching, so it answers 'where has this photo been published' — which is the right question for stolen dating and marketplace photos.
5. FootprintIQ — coverage where Search4faces has none
FootprintIQ's face search is built for exactly the platforms Search4faces does not cover: it checks whether a photo or avatar is reused across 400+ public platforms — Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Reddit, gaming networks and 40+ dating apps — and wraps every candidate in the identity context around it: the username on the profile, the bio, the links it declares, and whether the same handle or avatar appears elsewhere. Each link is scored Strong, Moderate or Low. We are not a facial-recognition engine and will not identify a stranger from a street photo; we are the tool for auditing your own exposure and for checking that a profile you have been sent is a real, coherent identity. The free scan needs no sign-up; the one-off Deep Scan (£24.99) adds breach exposure, a full identity graph and an exportable report.
Which alternative for which job
Russian-language networks still in scope: Search4faces first, Yandex second. Western social profiles: PimEyes for the biggest index, FaceCheck.ID if crypto is acceptable, FootprintIQ for the identity context around each match. A dating or marketplace photo you suspect is stolen: Google Lens, then Yandex, then FootprintIQ's dating profile search. Your own face: PimEyes or Lenso.ai to find copies, FootprintIQ to see what accounts the photo ties together.
Responsible Use
Every tool on this page searches publicly available images and every one of them can be misused. Running a face search on a stranger without a legitimate reason may breach data-protection law in the UK and EU and is prohibited by most of the tools' own terms. FootprintIQ is built for self-audit, impersonation detection, catfish verification and authorised due diligence; our ethical OSINT charter sets out what we will and will not do.
